The Sedelogic pad is constructed of a number of very breathing layers of three dimensionally woven polyester fibres. Because of the ventilation in the open three dimensional structure, less heat accumulation will occur under the saddle. Therefore also the horse back will remain dryer. Ventilation is an important quality of a saddle pad. The warm and humid air underneath the saddle can escape and is replaced by cooler and less humid ambient air. The dew point is a quantity which describes the combined effect of air temperature and humidity. An increase in air temperature and an increase in humidity both lead to an increase in dew point. The dew point gives a good indication of ventilation.

The graph shows the dew point versus time for Sedelogic products and regular non-ventilating fabrics. The dew point starts off at the value of the ambient air, and rises to a steady state due to heat and transpiration of the body. Because of the passive ventilation of the Sedelogic 3D woven structure, the steady state dew point in rest is substantially lower than that of products made from regular non-ventilating fabrics. A lower dew point means a lower combination of temperature and humidity.

Physical activity increases the heat and transpiration from the body. Therefore, the dew point increases for the products made from regular non-ventilating fabrics. However, the dew point decreases for the Sedelogic products. Active ventilation takes place: The body movement causes the Sedelogic 3D woven structure to repeatedly collapse and regain its shape again. This results in an active outward flow of warm and humid air, and an inward flow of cooler and less humid ambient air.

Shock absorption

Because of the three dimensional weaving technique thousands of mini shock absorbers arise which result in a strong pressure peak reduction. This strongly shock absorbing horse pad has been developed with laboratory tests of the material and field tests with horse and equestrian. After the fabrication of a pressure measurement mat which can measure pressure peaks during jumping, we have conducted several pressure measurements for a number of horses. These are worldwide the first pressure measurements during a jumping track. Peak pressures up to 100 Newton per square centimetre have been found when landing after the jump, and these peaks emerge at specific spots under the saddle. To put it in perspective, this pressure is equal to six times the pressure under an elephant leg. Because the Sedelogic pad has very good shock absorbing capabilities a peak pressure reduction up to 50% has been found. Because of this the chances of back pains are considerably reduced.

Not only during jumping the pressure distribution on the horse back is important. Also the constant pressure of the weight of the equestrian has to be distributed well on the horse back. This distribution of pressure is very uniform for the Sedelogic horse pad because of the special weaving technique. A pyramidal spread of pressure takes place because of the different layers of material. Because of this technique less spots with a high pressure on the horse back result, and therefore the chance of back pains is reduced.

Lightweight

The Sedelogic pads are very lightweight due to the open breathing structure. Also the polyester fibre doesn’t absorb moisture, which keeps it lightweight during riding. Furthermore the pad is machine washable (30 degrees Celsius) and is dry almost immediately. Drying for a long time is part of the past.
